GUINEA FOWL

Free range reared guineas are rare in the UK – most are imported oven-ready and frozen from France where they are known as ‘pintades’ – and we are very proud to be able to offer these inquisitive birds. Our keets (as young guineas are called) arrive as day-olds and are out in the fields as soon as they are fully feathered.

Guinea fowl are amazing foragers and if allowed to roam freely – as ours are – they love seeking out bugs, seeds and berries as they would in the wild. We keep our guineas much like game birds such as pheasants and partridges and, as a result, they get most of their diet from their semi-wild life and only receive a grain ration from us to ensure they get all the necessary vitamins and minerals.

As with our geese and turkeys, our guinea fowl are raised slowly and then game hung to create a moist, tender and flavoursome treat. Guinea fowl are succulent and delicious – tasting somewhere between a proper corn-fed chicken and a pheasant. Their size makes them perfect for a very generous meal for two. Why not indulge in something extra or a little different this Christmas, or maybe for New Year?

Our guinea fowl all finish to a similar size (c.1.7kg) so we are able to offer them for a ‘per bird’ rate rather than by the kilo. Please see our order page here for information.
